I hope you are all having a wonderful week! I can’t believe we are already in the second week of January! This month seems to be flying by! My semester-long internship began on Friday. I was supposed to be commuting to Boston this week for training, but unfortunately COVID found us. I’m going to start the virtual training today since I obviously can’t go into the office. It’s been a long few days but I am finally starting to feel better! Last week I shared some of my 2024 new year’s goals, so this week I wanted to share my word of the year.
I saw people doing this on Instagram a few years ago, so figured I would try it out! After all, I’ve got nothing to lose! My 2024 word of the year is…
In recent years, I have found myself being very short tempered with my family and having very little patience, whether or not they did something or there was a root cause for my lack of patience. I need to learn how to be more patient in my life, both to those around me, but also to myself. I hold a very high standard for myself, and this is something that I need to work on, along with learning to give myself more grace.
How I Came Up With My 2024 Word of the Year
I had been thinking about this for a few days and wondering what would be a good fit. A few weeks ago, I was driving around doing errands when the word “patience” came to me. I knew that this had to be my 2024 word of the year. I enjoy driving but I often times find my patience being tested when in the car because of the idiots on the road or because of traffic. A lot of my pet peeves stem from how other people drive lol. By rooting myself in patience, I’ll be a lot more calm and get less annoyed or frustrated with those around me.
This word could not be more fitting for me as I go into the new year. There is a lot going on in my personal life, a lot of which has to do with me being so uptight and wanting things to be done a certain way, which leads to my lack of patience for even very little things. I’m excited to see how this word helps me to continue to grow this year. Even in the first week of January, I had to remind myself to be patient and not blow a gasket at something that wasn’t too important.
There is a lot I want to change in my life this year. The last few years have been far from easy. I recognize that I want my life to change, and in order for that to happen I need to take action. I believe that that will all start with me having more patience with myself and others, and giving myself the grace that I deserve to learn and grow into the person I want to become.

Coming up with A 2024 Word of the Year
Please don’t just come up with a word on a whim! Think about a few good options and let them sit with your for a while. When you know your perfect word, it will feel right. And if after a few few weeks you don’t love the word you chose, that’s perfectly fine and normal! Feel free to change it at any point throughout the year. Picking a word of the year is meant to help guide you in your decisions in your everyday life.
I like to think about it as a bit of anchor that I can come back to. Whenever I find myself in a bit of a tough situation, I come back to my word and remind myself that I chose this word for a reason. For me, I am committing to myself to have more patience and grow my level of patience throughout the year. Now, everyday will not be perfect, but if I have a little more patience and tolerance at the end of the year, then that’s a huge win!
I hope this practice will help you this year with whatever you may be facing. Feel free to do a google search to find more ideas if you’re stuck. And you can always reach out to a close friend or family member for other suggestions. They often times know you best and may know the perfect word for you!
I hope you all have a great week! I can’t wait to hear what your chosen words are!
Until next week, friend!
