I am very pleased with how the start to this school year has gone. A big part of that is thanks to living in a single dorm room this year. If you missed my post, last year I was in a double that did not end so well… Even though I don’t have the same stunning view as I did last year, this room is even cozier (and if I’m being completely honest… bigger!).
My one complaint is that my room is incredibly dark. I hate the ceiling light, so I’ve had to bring an extra lamp from home. My room is very dark since it’s in the trees. No matter what time it is, I have to have a light on. On the upside, my room is very quiet. I don’t hear any street noise or people walking by, and the room stays relatively cool!
Dorm Room Bed Nook
This is such a cozy spot in my room. My bed is higher up, which I actually don’t mind. I have a few other cozy pillows from home. I brought a pillow pet (who remembers those?!?) from a million years ago. This just gives me another pillow to lean against when sitting in bed. I also like leaning against one of the other pillows and using my pillow pet (whom I named Patricia ;-)) as a bit of table. For example, if I’m reading in bed, I like sitting up and using Patricia to hold my book. And then the other two pillows are nice to give it a cozier feel.
I brought the red bookcase from home to use as a bed side table. On the top, I have a rechargeable lamp (I love this thing!!! You can change the brightness on it too!) and a 3-in-1 charger that charges my apple watch, air pods, and phone. These are really the only things I like to keep up here. I prefer to keep it decluttered. The other two shelves contain journals, notebooks, and various books.
Finally, I bought a Yogibo this year! Honestly, this is probably the best $250 I have ever spent! I am in love with the color of it. Blue used to be my favorite color, but over the last couple of months, I have found myself drawing more towards coral. I bought this because I wanted something comfy to sit on that wasn’t my bed or my desk. This fits that job perfectly. My room is a bit tight, so when I’m not using it, I store it under my bed and it fits like a glove.
Desk Nook
I love having my desk facing a window. I’m not sure, but I feel like it helps me concentrate and focus better… Right now I have my fan on my desk. I don’t love this, but I like blowing in the air from outside into my room. I feel like this helps the room cool down. As well, I like sleeping with the fan blowing on me, and this is the only way I could make that work.
I have a white board hanging on the wall next to my desk. I love using it to write down reminders that I think of in the moment, or writing out homework problems if I don’t want to waste paper.
Closet
The closet contains the majority of my things. I have a couple hanging clothes, mainly sweaters and dresses, along with my bathrobe and jackets. My laundry bag is also in my closet, along with all of my food items, such as snacks, plates, cutlery, a blender, etc. My closet is mainly just extra storage. As you can see in the image above, it is a bit cluttered. I am working to figure out a system that works best for me, in terms of organizing my closet.
Entrance to My Dorm Room
My dresser is the first thing you see when you walk into my room. I love how tall it is. It has 5 drawers, which is awesome. My dresser last year only had 3 drawers, so this gives me so much more organization and storage! The top drawers contains my supplements and medications, such as any prescriptions, allergy med, pain relief, etc.
The next three drawers contain clothes and the bottom drawer is extra things or things I don’t need very often, such as extra sheets and towels. I’m also keeping my toilet kit there because I won’t need that until I go home.
I brought an extra lamp from home. My dorm room is so dark, it needed the extra light! And I feel that the lamp just gives me room a bit of a cozier vibe!
Endnote
I love this room! It feels so cozy to me! I’ve hung some twinkle lights and other lights, which makes the room even cozier and more relaxing! I strongly believe that being in a single is the right fit for me. It has really helped to keep my anxiety in check and allows me to think with a clearer head. I’ve had a much better mindset this semester than I did last year. I look forward to the year ahead!
I would love to know how you set up your bedroom or your dorm room, so leave me a comment down below or send me a message! I’d love to see pictures! What are some of the necessities that you have to have and some of your favorite things! I’m always looking for new things to organize my space and making it even cozier! 🙂
