Christmas Morning 2022: The Good and the Bad

Opening stocking stuffers! This was a dog treat selfie clip. One end clips onto your phone, and the other end you put a dog treat in! It’s supposed to make your dog look at the camera to help you get a picture of them! This is perfect for me because Lolly always looks away from the camera when we try to take a picture of her!
Lots of Lolly love on Christmas morning. She is licking my mom's hand.
We had lots of Lolly love on Christmas morning!
One of my favorite presents I received Christmas morning was a watercolor painting of the the ocean!
This is one of my favorite gifts that I received this year! I’ve been wanting some new artwork for my room, so this is perfect! I think it’s absolutely stunning!

I hope you all had a very merry and bright Christmas! It’s hard to believe that we’re in the final week of 2022!! We have always spent our Christmas at home, and this year was no different! We had a very slow start to our Christmas morning. We began the day with presents and some delicious waffles! Overall it was a very quiet and chill day.

Before Christmas

The week before Christmas was very quiet and uneventful. Both my sister and I got home on December 22 and the rest of the week we all just laid low. Both of us are super tired and burnt out from being at school, and we’re just glad to be home. I was not as productive as I would have liked, but I accepted that I needed the rest.

On Christmas Eve, we went over to my mom’s cousins and saw our extended family. This was super nice and it was great to see everyone! However, because of my nonverbal learning disability, I have sensitivity issues with certain things, such lots of noise. At times, there was a lot of noise going on in the same room with many different conversations. It was a bit of a sensory overload for me, and when we got home, I was very ready for bed!

Christmas Morning

As expected, Christmas day was very quiet and we had a pretty slow start to the day. Unlike when we were kids, there wasn’t as big of a rush to open presents! We got home from our cousins super late on Christmas Eve (around 10pm), so we all slept in. We finally started opening stocking stuffers and presents around 9:30.

One of the highlights of the day was making waffles! I haven’t had waffles in so long, partly because we haven’t found a good gluten free waffle recipe, and partly because they’re a lot of work. However, they were definitely worth it!! I’m hoping to make waffles a Christmas tradition!

I have to say, I love all the presents I was given this year. My top favorites were a sound machine, a beautiful painting from Laurie Anne Art, some fake plants, and a jewelry box.

After opening presents, we all just kind of hung out, did our own thing, and had a very quiet day. We were all super glad and thankful we didn’t have to go anywhere!

After Christmas

Last week I was super tired and didn’t get too much done. This week, however, I am really forcing myself to be more productive! While I’m still relaxing and enjoying being at home, I am working at checking off things from my to do list!

Starting next week, I am working as a bank teller, so I am trying to soak up the last few days of December because come January I will have less free time between work and taking two online courses.

Endnote

Overall, Christmas was really fun and quiet. Last year, I was in a really hard place and didn’t enjoy Christmas as much as I did this year. It honestly just felt like another day on the calendar. And in some ways, I couldn’t wait for the day to be over! If you missed it, last week I shared a blog post all about how life can change in an instant. I talked about how last year my mental health was really suffering, and this year I am doing pretty good and am in a much better place!

Going into the new year, I hope to talk more about my struggle and story of living with nonverbal learning disability. Come find me on Instagram where I plan to share more of these tidbits and how I have overcome certain struggles!

Until next week, friend! (When we will be in 2023!! Crazy!)
